A Volunteer In Mission
Opportunity at
Rosebud Reservation
You are invited to be part of an exciting Volunteer in Mission
and cultural exchange to the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota
in May 2012. You will have an opportunity to make a significant
contribution to the Lakota people who live on the reservation,
to work side by side with them, and to learn about their
culture. Since we will be going as a team, you will also have
the opportunity to deepen relationships with your fellow
missioners.
Some of the projects include repairing homes and community buildings with special projects such as playgrounds, food distribution, clothing distribution, and helping at the meal site. We also might be helping with sewing and quilting, or teaching at the Boys and Girls Clubs.
They will present cultural events that are presented by the Native Americans who live on the Rosebud Reservation. Subjects presented will include Lakota/Dakota history, culture, poverty, health issues, social issues, Lakota/Dakota games, dancing, and regalia, a Sweat Lodge Ceremony, beading, and drum groups.
There will be a day included on which we may go to nearby attractions such as the Badlands, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, St. Joseph’s School, and museums.
